How to Discover Your Purpose In Life
63Discovering Your Purpose
Purpose is defined as the object of one's existence. It is the reason you exist. Life without purpose is pointless and is not life at all. Everyone has a purpose for their existence. You are here for a specific cause or purpose. How do you discover your purpose? There are keys that I have learned in life that will lead you to the discovery of your purpose.
- What type of people do you attract?
- What type of problems do you attract?
- What types of opportunites are always showing up?
- What problems in life infuriate you?
- What type of issues or problems ignite your compassion?
- What problems have you been waiting for someone else to solve?
- If money was not an issue what would you do with your life?
These are a few key points to consider in your quest to discover your purpose. It is important to pay attention to what goes on in your life. I've had quite a few jobs in my career but a pattern began to emerge throughout my working career. It always seemed like I was being pushed into doing some type of training or presentation. In most cases training was not even mentioned in the job description but somehow, someway I always found myself in front of a group of people doing a presentation or some type of training. The odd thing about this is I would get really nervous whenever I had to be in front of people. The amazing thing is I would always get positive feedback on my presentations and training. I would feel as though I had stumbled over words and used poor grammar but the audience would comment on how engaging and clear my presentation was. After this pattern continued I learned how to relax. I began to feed on the positive feedback I was getting. There were others who used better grammar and were more articulate and charismatic in their speech but I was always commended. It seemed like people understood what I saying. I had the innate ability to get my point across. The opportunities to do presentations and training continued to come even though I did not pursue them and I was well on my way to discovering my purpose.

Pursue Purpose
Once I began to pay attention to what was really going on in my life through the opportunities that kept showing up, I began to seek out and pursue opportunities to train. At this point I had come to the conclusion that I really loved teaching people things. I loved sharing what I had learned. I worked in the technical field and it appeared that my audience enjoyed having someone who could speak technical jargon on their level. As a result of the positive feedback I received from several clients, I began to reposition myself in my career for training opportunities. I made the decision to pursue what I loved doing instead of pursuing opportunities that were financially more rewarding.
Today I am a self-employed Technology Solutions Consultant but I continue to pursue opportunities to train. I have been contracted by small businesses to handle staff training and I have done training classes in local jails, churches and other businesses. I have added an online training portal to my solutions but I usually market that as an intermediate or advanced level solution so that I will have an opportunity to do the basic level training myself onsite. I love what I do and I feel at home in front of people sharing knowledge. At the end of a day of training I feel good about what I have accomplished. I have empowered someone with knowledge and skills that will help them succeed in life. My life has purpose!
